Public speaking is "a group of communication sciences that includes a person's ability to speak in public, groups or individuals with the right strategies and techniques." Public Speaking is a speaking skill but also not only speaking but must use the right strategies and techniques.

There are 3 goals of Public Speaking, namely:

  1. To Persuade, namely to persuade. For example, a lecture or speech, in this case the speaker can influence and convince his audience.
  2. To Inform, which is to provide information. For example, a reporter who conveys events or news to the public.
  3. To Entertain, which is entertaining. such as comics, in this case comics entertain the audience.

The purpose of public speaking is the same as a teacher who is teaching, the teacher can influence his students, provide information on subject matter and entertain his students rather not too bored in following the lesson.

In Public Speaking has aspects, namely:

  • Communicator (speaker), a good speaker must be able to know who his audience is to adjust the message he will convey, must use the right strategies and techniques.
  • Listeners, good listeners must analyze first, then listeners can adjust the content of the material to be delivered.
  • The message conveyed, the message is an important element, the content of the material is good for the audience.
  • The media used, the speaker can use various audiovisuals that can help convey the message to the audience.
  • Feedback, speakers must see feedback during public speaking, so that speakers do not speak at length but are not heard well and there is no response from the audience.
  • Anticipating disturbances that arise, disturbances can come and appear at any time, it can be from the speaker who does not master the content of the material he conveys and from a listener who can arise from uncomfortable situations around him or from the burden that is in the listener such as problems that arise. he kept thinking so it caused him not to concentrate.
  • Situations, situations can be part of the support and distraction.

There is a difference between Regular Conversation and Public Speaking, both of which are communication processes, there must be similarities and differences, especially in the setting.

  1. Regular Conversation will help us to train our brain to be able to arrange a thought or story into a logical structure so that it is easy for the other person to understand.
  2. This Regular Conversation will also train us to compose our message to be smooth and make it more fluent and effective.
  3. Regular Conversation will be trained to convey messages so that this impact can be Maximum.
  4. Regular Conversation can unconsciously train to quickly adapt to the feedback given by the interlocutor or audience.
  5. Public Speaking must speak in front of a crowd, not one by one with the audience. then Public Speaking has a longer duration of speaking because it has to convey a certain message.
